Kaja Kallas made a statement regarding steps taken to reduce tensions in the region and Pakistan’s mediation role.

Highlighting the strategic importance of the ceasefire, Kallas said, “The ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran means a step back from the brink after weeks of escalation.”

Emphasizing the importance of lasting stability, she added, “This creates a much-needed opportunity to reduce threats, halt missile attacks, restart maritime transport, and create space for diplomacy toward a lasting agreement.”

Regarding the Strait of Hormuz, she stated, “The Strait of Hormuz must be reopened to transit. I spoke with Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and thanked him for securing this initial agreement.”

Kallas concluded, “The door for mediation must remain open, as the root causes of the war have not yet been resolved. The EU stands ready to support these efforts and remains in contact with partners in the region. I will discuss this in Saudi Arabia today.”
