Lahbib: The peace agreement must be implemented, humanitarian crisis in Gaza is worsening
Brussels, June 15 (Hibya) - European Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib stressed that the ceasefire agreement, which also covers Lebanon, must be implemented on the ground and drew attention to the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza.
Lahbib made statements regarding the latest developments in the Middle East.
She noted that the agreement announced yesterday also includes Lebanon and emphasized the importance of improving the situation in the country as soon as possible. Recalling that attacks continue in Beirut, Lahbib stated that approximately three million people in Lebanon are in need of humanitarian assistance.
Lahbib said that the European Union continues its humanitarian aid efforts and announced that a new EU humanitarian aid flight will arrive in Beirut this week.
The Commissioner said she hopes that the agreement announced overnight will be implemented concretely on the ground and that the war in the region will come to an end.
She also highlighted the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, stating that food supplies are close to being exhausted, around 1.7 million people are living in tents, and aid deliveries are being obstructed. Lahbib added that even some European Union teams have been unable to access the area and called for compliance with international humanitarian law.
