Palestinian Foreign Ministry reacts to school decision in Sheikh Jarrah
The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned the approval by Israeli authorities for the establishment of a Jewish school named “Ohr Somayach” in the Sheikh Jarrah area of East Jerusalem.
In its statement, the ministry said the decision aims to affect the demographic and cultural structure of Jerusalem and that unilateral steps regarding the city’s status are unacceptable.
The statement also reiterated that Jerusalem is under occupation according to international law and that Israel has no sovereignty over the city. In this context, it was argued that such decisions have no legal validity and must be reversed.
The Palestinian side called on the international community and relevant organizations to take more effective steps to ensure that Israel complies with international law and United Nations resolutions.
