Prevot reacts to Israel’s settlement decision: Unacceptable
Brussels, August 21 (Hibya) - Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot reacted to the Israeli authorities’ settlement decision, which he said was contrary to international law, stating that the decision jeopardizes hopes for peace between Israelis and Palestinians.

Prevot said Belgium had joined the countries opposing Israel’s settlement policies and stated that the government’s position on these policies had not changed.
Prevot said: “It is unacceptable for the Israeli authorities to make a decision contrary to international law and for this to jeopardize hopes for peace between Israelis and Palestinians.”
Referring also to Israeli settlements in the West Bank, Prevot said: “Settlements are illegal. Our government continues to oppose them.”
Prevot said Belgium believes the prospect of a two-state solution must be preserved in order to achieve a peaceful and lasting solution between Israel and Palestine, stressing that current policies should not weaken this possibility.
Prevot concluded his statement by saying: “We reaffirm that the opportunities for a peaceful and lasting two-state solution must be preserved.”
