U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio made a statement about the ongoing sanctions processes and human rights advocacy.
Emphasizing the Trump administration’s stance, Rubio said: “The Trump administration continues to hold the Murillo-Ortega dictatorship accountable for the brutal human rights violations committed against Nicaraguans.”
Explaining the sanctions decision and its justification, Rubio stated: “I am placing Nicaragua’s Deputy Minister of the Interior Luis Roberto Canas Novoa under sanctions for his role in human rights violations.”
