Tajani: Nuclear energy included within flexibility for energy investments
Rome, August 18 (Hibya) - Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani announced that the European Commission has decided that the flexibility under the Stability and Growth Pact for energy investments can also be applied to nuclear energy. Tajani said nuclear energy, together with renewable sources, is important for energy independence and lower costs.
Italian Foreign Minister Tajani commented on the European Commission's decision regarding investments in nuclear energy.
Tajani said the flexibility applied to energy investments under the Stability and Growth Pact could also be used for nuclear energy investments. Describing the decision as good news for Italy, Tajani noted that the government had launched the process of adopting nuclear energy technology.
Emphasizing that nuclear power plants must be sustainable and safe, Tajani said decarbonization could be accelerated by using nuclear energy together with renewable sources.
Tajani also said nuclear energy could help reduce dependence on foreign energy supplies and lower electricity bills.
Tajani said, “This is an answer that citizens and businesses are asking of us, and we are building it step by step with determination.”
