Bulgaria condemns Houthi threats in the Red Sea
Sofia, July 22 (Hibya) - Bulgaria's Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned Houthi threats against commercial vessels in the Red Sea, warning that any naval blockade of the Bab al-Mandab Strait would pose a threat to regional security and international trade.
Bulgaria expressed its support for Saudi Arabia and condemned Houthi threats against commercial vessels in the Red Sea.
In a statement, Bulgaria's Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the threat to impose a naval blockade in the Bab al-Mandab Strait as an unacceptable escalation.
The statement noted that such a move would increase the risk of further spreading the conflict and would pose a serious threat to regional security, international trade, and the global economy.
It also stressed that freedom of navigation must be guaranteed in accordance with international law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), calling for all vessels to be able to navigate safely and without obstruction.
Bulgaria's Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on all parties to exercise restraint and work toward de-escalation, urging them to refrain from actions that could endanger maritime security or expand the conflict across the region.
