Dutch government and farmers discuss nitrogen package
Amsterdam, August 20 (Hibya) - Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten met with farming organizations to discuss the package prepared by the government under the country's nitrogen policy.
Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten met with representatives of farmer and young farmer organizations to discuss the package prepared by the government under its nitrogen policy.
The meeting addressed how the details of the package should be shaped, the problems faced by farmers and efforts aimed at restoring nature.
Jetten said the government presented a nitrogen package before the summer to overcome problems caused by the country's nitrogen policy, provide farmers with greater clarity and future prospects, and advance nature restoration efforts.
Jetten said a broad cabinet delegation met today with the Netherlands Agricultural and Horticultural Association (LTO Nederland) and NAJK, which represents young farmers and horticulturalists, adding that the details of the nitrogen package were discussed during the meeting.
The talks also assessed current developments and unrest among farmers. Jetten said the meeting was a comprehensive discussion in which existing problems were addressed openly.
The Dutch Prime Minister said a broader assessment was needed on how the nitrogen package could be further detailed and in which areas improvements could be made.
Jetten said the government would continue this work through structured consultations with LTO and NAJK, emphasizing the importance of maintaining dialogue with farmer representatives.
“It is useful to keep the conversation going,” Jetten said, stressing that the government would continue exchanging views with the agricultural sector.
