Guterres: Let us pledge to erase the stain of racism from our world
New York, March 23 (Hibya) - United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for solidarity, emphasizing that racism does not occur in isolation and harms everyone.
UN Secretary-General Guterres stated that racial discrimination is a violation of human rights and human dignity.
Noting that this discrimination is both widespread and learned behavior, Guterres said: "It has caused countless deaths and immense suffering throughout history. It has no place in our world, yet it appears in schools, workplaces, and countless daily interactions. Racism harms us all."
Guterres stressed that he is deeply concerned about the spread of racism and xenophobia on digital platforms and in political discourse.
Emphasizing that the solution to combating racism is solidarity, Guterres stated:
"Governments, institutions, businesses, and communities must work together to protect the dignity, justice, equality, and rights of every individual. This means taking urgent and concrete steps, including within the United Nations, to end racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia, and related intolerance. I am determined to combat all forms of racism, from harmful interpersonal interactions to deeply rooted institutional and systemic biases."
