The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that an online ceremony was held in Bishkek to mark the start of construction of the joint Infectious Disease Research Center between Russia and Kyrgyzstan.

It was stated that the construction process for the center to be established in Kyrgyzstan was launched with the ceremony held on August 31.

The center is being established by the Russian Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) under the Russian president's instruction dated November 24, 2021, and an agreement signed between the Russian government and the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan on March 7, 2023.

The center is planned to operate within the Republican Center for Quarantine and Especially Dangerous Infections under the Kyrgyz Ministry of Health in Bishkek.

The statement said the design and construction of the center are being financed by Russia. It noted that preparatory engineering work, design studies and cost estimates had been completed, and that the project had received a positive assessment from Russia's Federal Autonomous Institution Glavgosekspertiza.

It was stated that the center had been registered in Bishkek's registry of facilities under construction and that Russia and Kyrgyzstan had designated the general contractors responsible for carrying out the work.

Construction of the center is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2027.
