According to a statement by Tanzania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ceremony was held on April 7, 2026, hosted by the ambassadors and permanent delegates of the African Group to UNESCO.

In his speech, Dean of the African Group Ambassadors in France, Ayeid Yahya, stated that Mwadini’s tenure stood out for his professionalism, integrity, and strong commitment to building consensus. Yahya added that Mwadini’s service reflected Tanzania’s active participation in both bilateral and multilateral platforms.

South Africa’s Permanent Representative to UNESCO, Philemon Mjwara, also noted that Mwadini made significant contributions, particularly through co-chairing the 2025 UNESCO Africa Week and his leadership in consultations among African countries within the UNESCO Executive Board.

Acting UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Priority Africa and External Relations, Mohamed Elfarnawany, highlighted the close cooperation between the UNESCO Secretariat and Mwadini, emphasizing joint efforts to promote the Kiswahili language through UNESCO initiatives.

In his remarks, Ali J. Mwadini thanked the African Group, ambassadors and permanent delegates of UNESCO member states, and the Secretariat for their support and cooperation, stating that he would continue contributing to efforts aimed at promoting the values of “ubuntu.”
