Von der Leyen: Israel-Lebanon agreement is a crucial step toward de-escalation
Brussels, June 27 (Hibya) – European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen welcomed the agreement reached between Israel and Lebanon, describing it as an important step toward reducing tensions in the region.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen issued a statement on the agreement reached between Israel and Lebanon.
Von der Leyen said she welcomed the agreement, describing it as a crucial step in preventing further escalation in the Middle East. She added that instability in the region remains an obstacle to lasting peace.
She also thanked the United States for its mediation efforts, stressing that the next phase of the process should include the disarmament of non-state armed groups and the protection of Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Von der Leyen stated that the European Union stands ready to support the process and noted that €100 million in humanitarian aid has also been mobilized for displaced people.
