Zelensky: It may be useful to try to find a diplomatic solution
Kyiv, April 3 (Hibya) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that diplomatic and technical solution proposals to ensure the continuity of energy flow in the Strait of Hormuz could be beneficial, adding that Ukraine’s experience in the Black Sea Grain Corridor could serve as a guide in this process.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made statements regarding the current situation in the Strait of Hormuz and global energy security.
Referring to the messages conveyed to regional actors, Zelensky said: “Our message to the United States and Middle Eastern countries regarding the Strait of Hormuz was that we are open to discussing this issue. As of today, I do not see any country lifting the blockade on its own, but joint steps may yield results.”
Citing Ukraine’s success in the Black Sea as an example, Zelensky stated: “Ukraine has experience in implementing the Grain Corridor in the Black Sea despite Russia’s attempts to block the flow of food and other goods. Based on our experience, our proposal is that negotiations on the war and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz can be conducted in parallel.”
Speaking about alternative solutions and the support Ukraine can provide, Zelensky said: “An alternative step would be to take unilateral control of the strait, as Ukraine did with the Grain Corridor. To achieve this, deterrence aircraft, military convoys to escort ships, a large integrated electronic warfare network, and other means will be required. We are ready to assist in this matter.”
