Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand announced new sanctions on five senior Iranian officials who were allegedly involved in activities aimed at obstructing passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
Anand said, “Canada has imposed new sanctions on five senior Iranian officials involved in efforts to obstruct passage through the Strait of Hormuz and endanger our allies and partners in the Gulf.”
Anand said the actions of those individuals disrupt trade, put pressure on supply chains and endanger regional stability, adding that the sanctions are part of broader efforts to hold the Iranian authorities accountable for their actions.
Anand also said Canada continues to take measures to prevent individuals linked to the Iranian authorities from finding safe haven in the country. “We will continue to use the tools at our disposal to protect Canadians, enforce international law and ensure that those responsible for the regime's actions are held accountable,” she said.
