Fletcher: I allocated $2.5 million from the UN CERF emergency fund
New York, June 6 (Hibya) - United Nations (UN) Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher announced that $2.5 million has been allocated from the emergency fund to provide cash assistance and life-saving support to 120,000 people in Mauritania in response to the expected drought threat.
UN Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher pointed out that the anticipated drought in certain regions of Mauritania will further increase the needs of populations already at risk, stating that action has been taken to mitigate the effects of the crisis.
Providing details about the financial measure and the scope of the assistance, Fletcher said: "To get ahead of the drought, I have allocated $2.5 million from the UN Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF); this funding will provide cash assistance and life-saving support to 120,000 people."
