United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said he met with IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez and emphasized that the organization's role in ensuring the safety of seafarers is of critical importance during a period of rising geopolitical tensions.

Expressing his satisfaction with the meeting and highlighting the mission of the IMO, Guterres said: “At a time of increasing geopolitical tensions, the IMO’s work is more vital than ever in ensuring the safety of seafarers around the world.”

Declaring his support for efforts to rescue maritime workers, Guterres concluded: “I fully support the IMO’s efforts to rescue seafarers stranded in the Gulf.”
