A joint commitment regarding the safety and oversight responsibilities of companies operating in the field of artificial intelligence was released at the White House.

The commitment stated that companies developing and using leading AI models should establish strong internal processes and control mechanisms to ensure that their technologies work as intended and to quickly identify and address any problems that may arise.

Under the commitment, companies are expected to monitor model capabilities and alignment in areas such as cybersecurity, biological safety and chemical threats, prevent unintended access to technical systems, establish internal teams to oversee control and audit processes, and conduct independent external audits.

The commitment also stated that completed audits and the processes for addressing identified problems should be monitored by independent committees on company boards.

Participating companies were said to meet regularly to establish standards and best practices aimed at improving system safety, while it was noted that these practices could later be considered for conversion into laws or regulations.

The signatories to the joint commitment were said to include Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, OpenAI President Greg Brockman, xAI CEO Elon Musk, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and US President Donald Trump.
