Prevot: Our country has achieved a significant increase in defense spending
Stockholm, May 22 (Hibya)- Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot stated that they are in Sweden for the NATO Foreign Ministers Meeting, emphasizing that holding this summit under Sweden’s hosting carries a strong message.
Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot, drawing attention to Sweden’s recent accession process, said: “Four years ago Sweden was not a NATO member. It joined entirely of its own free will, without any pressure, as a sovereign democratic choice. Today it is hosting us.”
Highlighting the contradiction between the current geopolitical shift and Russia’s policies, Prevot said: “Even this is one of the clearest consequences of Putin’s aggressive war: more NATO, more Europe, more unity. Exactly the opposite of what Moscow intended.”
Referring to Belgium’s role within the alliance and its military budget, Minister Prevot noted that their country has achieved a significant increase in defense spending among all allies and has returned strongly to the stage.
Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot concluded his remarks by saying: “However, this is not about figures in a report. It is about what we are doing together to protect our citizens.”
