A number of steps aimed at developing U.S.-China relations were reportedly taken during the meeting between U.S. President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

A White House fact sheet said Trump and First Lady Melania Trump hosted Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan in the United States as part of a state visit.

As part of the talks, the two countries’ intergovernmental mechanisms on trade and investment were reportedly activated. Under the U.S.-China Trade Council, the sides were said to have reached agreement on recommendations for more favorable tariff treatment for $30 billion worth of non-sensitive goods in each direction.

A working group was also reportedly established under the Trade Council to address market-access barriers in the agricultural sector. U.S. exports to China were said to include agricultural products, fish and seafood, logs and wood products, cosmetics and medical devices, while imports from China to the United States include small household appliances, toys, Christmas decorations and child car seats.

Following U.S. policies aimed at revitalizing the coal sector, China was reported to be set to import at least 10 million metric tons of coal from the United States in 2027 and 2028.

The two countries were also reported to have established the U.S.-China Investment Council. The council is intended to create a structured communication channel between the two countries on commercially significant issues by addressing potential investment opportunities and barriers to investment.

The White House said discussions were continuing on supply-chain issues involving rare earth elements and other critical minerals, with the aim of restoring shipment levels to appropriate levels.

Trump and Xi reportedly exchanged views on promoting global peace and prosperity, and the two countries agreed to develop a constructive relationship based on strategic stability, mutual respect, fairness and reciprocity.

The United States and China were reported to have agreed to support one another as they host the G20 and Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summits, with the two leaders planning to attend each other’s respective summits.

The meeting also addressed global developments related to Russia, North Korea and Iran, with the two leaders reportedly agreeing that Iran must not possess nuclear weapons. It was also stated that no country or institution should be allowed to impose transit fees on international waterways.

Trump was reported to have advocated trilateral arms-control negotiations among the United States, Russia and China.

The United States and China were said to have agreed to use the term “Super Intelligence” instead of “artificial intelligence” to describe emerging technologies.

The two countries reportedly established the U.S.-China Super Intelligence Dialogue to exchange views on the risks and potential benefits of super intelligence. The next exchange is planned to take place by November 2026.

The United States and China were also reported to have agreed to establish a bilateral communication channel concerning incidents related to super intelligence.

The White House fact sheet also addressed China’s actions against the trade in precursor chemicals used in drug production, stating that in August 2026 China detained 21 Chinese nationals linked to the production and distribution of precursor chemicals based on information received from U.S. law enforcement authorities.
