Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that he commemorated the victims by recalling that 12 years ago Russia shot down Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17, killing 298 innocent people.

Marking the anniversary of the tragedy, Zelensky expressed support for the victims' families and the affected nations, saying, "Today, we remember every victim and stand with their families and all the nations that lost loved ones on that tragic day. The downing of MH17 was nothing but an act of terrorism."

Continuing his criticism of Russia's policies, Zelensky said, "Russia has made this kind of terror against civilians a defining feature of its policy toward its neighbors, the wider world, and even its own people."

Emphasizing accountability, Zelensky stated, "It is important that the world does not turn a blind eye and that justice and accountability are ensured for every crime Russia has committed against Ukrainians and other people."
