Macron: We are presenting the Commission with a new roadmap for a social media ban for those under 15
Paris, September 14 (Hibya) - French President Emmanuel Macron announced that, as part of the commitment to protect children online, a new roadmap prepared for a social media ban for those under the age of 15 has been submitted to the European Commission.
French President Emmanuel Macron said that from the very first day they had pledged to protect children from digital risks and that they would continue this process with determination.
Referring to the Constitutional Council’s decision in mid-August, Macron said, “Following the Constitutional Council’s decision in mid-August regarding the social media ban for those under 15, I tasked the Prime Minister with setting out a roadmap consistent with the Council’s findings and European law. That task has now been completed.”
Describing the steps taken by the government, Macron said, “Following extensive technical work, today, one month after the Council’s decision, the Government is submitting new documents to the Commission.”
Drawing attention to his objectives at the international level, Macron stressed, “This protection must also become a standard for all European children.”
Macron concluded his message by saying, “That is why I shared with the President of the European Commission my determination to ensure that Europe acts quickly and decisively to harmonize this ban at Union level and regulate platform features.”
