Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said in a statement that he condemned in the strongest terms the attempted drone attack on the holy area in Mecca.

Sharif said the people of Pakistan were saddened by the incident and praised the swift response of the Royal Saudi Armed Forces and the security measures taken.

Calling on the parties to exercise maximum restraint, Sharif said further escalation must be prevented and stressed that dialogue and diplomacy are the only sustainable path to lasting peace. Sharif also stated that Pakistan stands with Saudi Arabia regarding its sovereignty, territorial integrity and the security of Masjid al-Haram and Al-Masjid an-Nabawi.
