US President Donald Trump announced the official reopening of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington following renovations. Speaking at the opening, Trump discussed both the pool's previous condition and the work his administration had carried out in the capital.
Criticizing previous administrations, Trump claimed that Washington had been neglected in the past, saying, "We are treating our capital with the love and honor it deserves. We respect it."
Addressing Iran, Trump claimed that the US had achieved a very significant victory against the country. Commenting on Iran's air force and military, Trump also alleged that the country was experiencing economic difficulties, referring to an inflation rate of 3 percent. He said the outcome of developments concerning Iran would become clear and characterized the US as economically and militarily strong.
Trump also discussed Venezuela, referring to what he described as a victory achieved in the country in a single day and highlighting oil revenues obtained from Venezuela. He said significant quantities of oil were arriving in the US from Venezuela every day and that hundreds of billions of dollars' worth of oil had been obtained from the country.
Turning to Greenland, Trump described the island as vital to the US and thanked Denmark and Europe for the agreement reached. Discussing the energy resources of Venezuela, Greenland and the US together, Trump said, "When you combine Venezuela and the United States, we have half of the world's oil reserves. We have more than twice as much as Saudi Arabia and Russia have."
Commenting on the performance of the US economy, Trump claimed that personal incomes had reached an all-time high, the poverty rate was at a record low and US exports had reached their highest level ever. He also said the number of employed people in the country was at a historic high and that the US was by far the world's largest supplier of oil and natural gas.
Trump claimed that his administration had implemented the largest tax cuts in history, strengthened border security and uncovered billions of dollars in financial irregularities. He also said they would continue protecting rights guaranteed under the Second Amendment to the US Constitution.
Trump announced that military personnel had received a $1,776 bonus and said that if the process succeeded, every adult US citizen would receive a $5,000 check. He added that the check should be spent within the United States.
Commenting on the upcoming elections, Trump said they were important for the future of the US and the preservation of its values. Criticizing the Democrats, he alleged that they wanted to bring an administration made up of communists to power in the United States.
Trump said he had been speaking with Americans and that voters were ready to go to the polls, adding that they had achieved historic vote totals in many states in previous elections. He argued that people he believed hated their country should not be allowed to win elections and said Republicans needed to secure a major victory, as they had in the previous election.
Trump acknowledged that incumbent presidents generally do not achieve strong results in midterm elections but said they would nevertheless make a determined effort during the election campaign. At the conclusion of his speech, he reiterated his administration's aim to continue its tax-cutting, border security and economic policies.
