Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys said Russia's attack on Georgia 18 years ago exposed the Kremlin's imperialist policies.

Budrys stated that Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region remain under Russian occupation, international commitments have not been fulfilled, and human rights violations continue.

He argued that Russia's approach toward Georgia in 2008 also laid the groundwork for the war it is waging against Ukraine today, stressing that Lithuania will continue to support Georgia's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and European future.

Budrys also called on the international community to maintain pressure on Russia, end the occupation, and uphold international law. He added that Georgia's future lies in the democratic choices of its people and its European aspirations, while the greatest threat to that future is Russia's occupation and its attempts to undermine Georgia's sovereignty.
