Czech President Petr Pavel issued a statement on the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks carried out in the United States on September 11, 2001. Pavel said the attacks claimed the lives of around 3,000 people, including a woman and a man of Czech origin.

Pavel said: “Twenty-five years ago, the September 11 terrorist attacks changed the world. They cost the lives of around 3,000 people, including a woman and a man of Czech origin.” He said the attacks also affected perceptions of security and threats and increased the importance of the responsibility of democratic countries to protect their citizens and values.

Pavel said he remembers those who lost their lives, their loved ones and the courage of those who helped at the time, recalling that he attended a commemoration for the victims of the attacks in New York in 2023.

Pavel said: “Standing where the former Twin Towers once stood is a powerful experience that gives the events of September 11 a very personal dimension.”
